Cafe Grillades
For a hearty breakfast/brunch, check out Cafe Grillades in San Bruno. I love their crepes, both sweet and savory, and their fluffy omelettes. Their menu is a bit American and French with a Mediterranean flare. And they also serve gelato. Shown in the picture are the San Francisco in flour crepe (top) and the spinach and brie buckwheat crepe (bottom). Both are served with a spring mix salad with a simple balsamic vinaigrette. The place is small, but I have never needed to wait for a seat. The staff and owner are friendly and attentive. Free wi-fi for patrons.
It was voted “One the Bay Area’s “Best Bargain Bites” by the San Francisco Chronicle
and “Best Dessert Crepes” by the San Mateo Daily.
Cafe Grillades is located at 851 Cherry Ave #16 in the Bayhill Shopping Center, San Bruno,
CA 94066. (650) 589-3778. http://www.cafegrillades.com

Dogpatch’s Little Gem
Hidden in San Francisco Dogpatch’s industrial building, Jolt N Bolt offers good and cheap eats for the local working class. They serve coffee and pastries beginning at 7:30am, and they will always have at least six pots of different brews for you to choose. A small cup is only $1, and $1.25 for the large.
They serve lunch on weekdays (unsure about weekend hours), usually about $5-6 per order. The lunch menu is different day by day written on a dry erase board. Their signature lunches are their grilled sandwiches and salad. My favorite is the grilled tomato and fresh mozzarella foccacia sandwich with spring mix salad. Another popular sandwich is the spicy chicken. They won’t skimp onthe the portions either. For about $5.50, you’d get a full sandwich and a pretty good size salad with simple vinaigrette. Besides sandwiches, they may have other entrees such as burritos, enchiladas, chicken parmigiana, personal pizzas, chicken cordon bleu, chicken pot pie, and even chow mein. They also serve soup of the day by the cup or bowl. Step in daily to see what dishes they may surprise you with. All cooked with quality and care.
